THE ORIGIN OF DISEASE

Bible: Psalm 103-1-5

Main verse: JEREMIAH 6: 7 part B – Violence and plundering are heard in her. Before Me continually are grief and wounds.

– No one wants to get sick or be infected by any disease, but sickness is a part of reality. Sooner or later, a person will suffer from them. We should understand and face them in order to have a peace of mind whenever they come.

– To cure sickness, doctors have to know how and when it started. The Bible has mentioned many kind of diseases and we should look into the Bible to know their origins.

– Firstly, we should know this: God uses sickness and diseases only to punish those who commit sins. However, he could use them for his children’s benefit.

DEUTERONOMY 28: 58-59 – If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues, great and prolonged plagues, and serious and prolonged sicknesses.

JEREMAIH 6: 7 – As a fountain wells up with water, so she wells up with her wickedness. Violence and plundering are heard in her. Before Me continually are grief and wounds.

GIÊ-RÊ-MI 6: 7 – Như suối văng nước ra thể nào, thì nó cũng văng những điều gian ác ra thể ấy. Sự dữ tợn và hủy phá nghe ra trong nó; bịnh hoạn và thương tích thường ở trước mặt ta.

– This verse lets us know that when people commit sins, they will be punished with diseases. On the other hand though, illness can be a good thing for those who fear God:

ROMANS 8: 28 – And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

RÔ-MA 8: 28 – Vả, chúng ta biết rằng mọi sự hiệp lại làm ích cho kẻ yêu mến Đức Chúa Trời, tức là cho kẻ được gọi theo ý muốn Ngài đã định.

– The phrase ‘all things’ include illnesses. In order for us to benefit from our sickness, all we have to do is fear God, love Him and live up to the standards in the Bible. That’s why we can see that both wicked and good people suffer from sickness, as in the cases of Jehoram and Elisha.

2CHRONICLES 21: 18 – After all this the Lord struck him in his intestines with an incurable disease.

2SỬ KÝ 21: 18 – Sau các việc ấy, Đức Giê-hô-va hành hại người, khiến cho bị bịnh bất trị trong ruột.

2KINGS 13: 14 – Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. Then Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said: O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel and their horsemen!

1CÁC VUA 13: 14 – Ê-li-sê đau bịnh, tại bịnh ấy người phải chết. Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đến thăm người, khóc trước mặt người, mà nói rằng: Hỡi cha tôi! Cha tôi! Xe và lính kỵ của Y-sơ-ra-ên!

– Therefore, some sinners will suffer from sickness, because God uses that as a tool to punish them. We should also understand that sickness and diseases are not always bad, but in some special cases, they are good for those who fear God and have strong faith in Him, as in the case of Paul.

2CORINTHIANS 12: 7 – And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.

2CÔ-RINH-TÔ 12: 7 – Vậy nên, e rằng tôi lên mình kiêu ngạo bởi sự cao trọng cả thể của những sự tỏ ra ấy chăng, thì đã cho một cái giằm xóc vào thịt tôi, tức là quỉ sứ của Sa-tan, để vả tôi, và làm cho tôi đừng kiêu ngạo.

– The Bible tells us that from the beginning, there was no sickness in the garden of Eden. God uses sickness to punish sinners, so before Adam disobeyed God, he would not suffer from any illness. The Bible had not mentioned any sickness that Adam may have, even after that. That’s one of the main reasons that Adam and the next few generations had live very long lives.

– For Satan, it’s another story, because the Bible clearly indicates that sickness and diseases were used to punish sinners. Satan must have plenty of them, because he had sinned against God many times. There was no sickness or diseases in the garden of Eden, but in the outside world, there are a lot of them.

– Scientists have recently discovered cancer located in the foot bone of a walking ape (a.k.a caveman). They did not know where it came from, or how long it had affected the ape. One thing that we know for sure is that cancer has been seen in many people nowadays, and it can cause death if untreated. Cancer is not contagious. They are rarely transmitted externally, but they can be transmitted internally by genes from one generation to the next.

– Thus by science, we know that human got illnesses from Satan and his creatures, the walking apes that were called tares in Matthew 13. Part of the chapter recorded the story when Jesus told His disciples of two different races of humans, in which one came from God and one came from Satan.

– Satan got diseases, because he sinned against God. He infected the creatures that he made to defile God’s plan for mankind. When Adam’s descendants lived among those who came from Satan, they got infected too and that’s why their lives became shorter than their ancestors.

GENESIS 6: 3 – And the Lord said: My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.

SÁNG THẾ KÝ 6: 3 – Đức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Thần ta sẽ chẳng hằng ở trong loài người luôn; trong điều lầm lạc, loài người chỉ là xác thịt; đời người sẽ là một trăm hai mươi năm mà thôi.

– And because Satan always got sickness and diseases with himself as a constant punishment as well as a reminder of his sins against God, so he had used them to infected Job when God allowed him to do so to test Job’s faith in God.

JOB 2: 7 – So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

GIÓP 2: 7 – Sa-tan bèn lui ra khỏi trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, hành hại Gióp một bịnh ung độc, từ bàn chân cho đến chót đầu.

– Now we know that sickness and diseases are bad, or good depending on human’s relations with God. In order for us to be healed or to get benefits from our illness, we should come to God and re-establish that connection with Him.

ACTS 10: 38 – How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

CÔNG VỤ 10: 38 – Thể nào Đức Chúa Trời đã xức cho Đức Chúa Jêsus ở Na-xa-rét bằng Đức Thánh Linh và quyền phép, rồi Ngài đi từ nơi nọ qua chỗ kia làm phước và chữa lành hết thảy những người bị ma quỉ ức hiếp; vì Đức Chúa Trời ở cùng Ngài.

– Only a person himself knows why he got sickness or diseases, either because of his sins in the past or because God wants to test his faith, so we have to act accordingly by our own understanding of our situations with the guiding from God’s Word.

– May God see us worthy to receive miracles from Him, and may we live with good health for the rest of our lives on Earth. Amen.
