THE ORIGIN OF SATAN

(from GOD AND HIS ETERNAL PLAN)

THE ORIGIN OF SATAN – 1. Where did Satan come from? If God is the Creator of all things, why did He create Satan? Why did God allow Satan to tempt and torment mankind? These are questions that many people, both Christians and non-Christians, have wondered and asked. From these questions, there are many answers, but some people still do not know which explanation to believe.

According to the Bible, God did not create anything evil. He is the Creator of all things and all are good. But by the decision in the hearts of His creatures, evil and evil things happen.

The Bible says that in the beginning there was God and He was alone in a vast emptiness, there was nothing else, not even an atom. He was self-existent and eternal. He was also powerful, wise and loving. Because of God’s great love, He had to have someone to express His love to. This is something we should think about a little. If a person says that he has a great love for others, but he does not express that love to anyone, then his claim is a lie. In the same way, since God is loving, He must have someone to express that love to. That is why in the beginning God created angels to be the objects of His love, and Satan was one of His angels.

Because of God’s great love, He created the angels so beautifully and gave them great and wonderful abilities. It is also because of His love that God gave them the freedom to choose what they want to do. When we think about the meaning of freedom, we will see how much God loves His angels. In love, freedom is the most precious thing, because if we are forced to love, it is no longer called love. True love must be two-way and must originate from free choice, so that love is born from a voluntary heart, honestly, without any coercion. That is the reason why God gave His angels freedom so that they can voluntarily love Him back. But Satan used that freedom to rebel against God.

THE ORIGIN OF SATAN – 2. Satan’s rebellion was to elevate himself to be equal with God (Isaiah 14:12-14). Since God has given His angels great powers, and Satan was one of the archangels like Michael, his power is even greater. That is why he thinks he can be equal with God. Not only that, he also considers himself to be higher than Jesus Christ (Isaiah 14:13, Revelation 22: 16). God is a Trinity, because, by His power, the word of God became one being, Jesus Christ (John 1:1), and the wisdom of God became the third being (Proverbs 8:22-31). But Satan, because God has given him great powers, thinks he is even higher than Jesus Christ. Because of his pride, he fought with the archangel Michael for the position he wanted in Heaven (Revelation 12:7-9), but he lost the battle and was cast out of Heaven along with the angels who followed him in rebellion against God. Their number was one-third of the total number of angels that God had created (Revelation 12:3-4). It was because of that rebellion that Satan and the other angels became demons in this world.
