THE LORD’S SHEEP
Psalm 23:1 – The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
This is one of the verses Christians cherish most, and one we all know by heart. However, we want to use this verse to encourage you in your study of God’s Word.
We all know that those God shepherds are His sheep. But what does the word SHEEP signify in the Bible? What defines someone as one of the LORD’S SHEEP, and what distinguishes those who are not? Does being a sheep automatically mean one belongs to the Lord? According to the Bible, how many flocks and how many sheepfolds are there? How does one become a SHEEP and come under the Lord’s care? What are the requirements? There are also other equally important questions, such as:
– Is it certain that the Lord’s sheep will never lack anything?
– If a Christian experiences lack in some area, does that mean they are not one of the Lord’s sheep?
– Are all those who live in abundance and contentment necessarily the Lord’s sheep? What if they do not believe in the Lord?
Through these questions, you can see just how profound God’s Word is. Although it is but a simple Bible verse, a careful study reveals a wealth of themes for further exploration—such as the Lord’s Sheep, Christians and Contentment, Being Shepherded by God, The Benefits of Want, and other related topics. We thank the Lord that His Word is living and infinitely rich, offering us—as Christians—endless learning opportunities, both in this life and throughout eternity.
