GOD IS THE SOVEREIGN RULER OVER ALL | Part 1
According to the Scriptures, because God is the Creator of all things, He is inherently the Owner of everything (Psalm 22:28; 103:19). He possesses the absolute authority to utilize His creation to fulfill the eternal plan He has ordained (Ephesians 1:9; 3:11). Even the Lord Jesus Himself originates from God; hence, He is called the Son of God (John 3:16–17) or is said to be “begotten” of God (1 John 5:1). The term “begotten” here signifies that He originates from God (Philippians 2:6; 1 Corinthians 8:6). As the Word of God—Who, by God, came to exist as a distinct Person (John 1:1)—Jesus is rightly called the Son of God.
However, when approaching the Scriptures, human beings have often interpreted the terms “begotten” and “Son” through a carnal, worldly lens. They mistakenly assume that Jesus was “begotten” by God in the same manner as human procreation—requiring both a male and a female. Consequently, Muslims reject this concept and do not acknowledge Jesus as the Savior, arguing that God cannot take a wife and father a child as human beings do. Another church holds that a goddess must exist in the invisible realm to be the true mother of Jesus; consequently, it has elevated a human being to the status of a “holy mother.”Such an interpretation shows that human efforts lead only to error, for the Bible must be interpreted by the Bible itself—no other approach is valid. These are classic examples of human error in interpreting Scripture, where individuals use worldly knowledge, personal opinions, and carnal reasoning to examine the Word of the Almighty—acting as if their own thoughts and ideas could match the thoughts of the exalted God. They fail to recall that the Bible states that just as the vast heavens are distant from the earth, so too are God’s thoughts and ways far beyond human comprehension (Isaiah 55:9).
Because they lack a clear understanding of what is meant by the term “Son” when the Bible refers to Jesus as the Son of God, many have conjured up the image of a heavenly goddess. This satisfies their human-centric perspective on the term “Son”—the assumption that if there is a father and a son, there must necessarily be a mother. It is for this reason that human-devised religion has deliberately elevated Mary to a position of high honor, aligning with their carnal view that the birth of a child requires both a father and a mother.
This error, born of ignorance, has gradually fostered a belief system that necessitates praying to Mary to receive forgiveness or blessings from God and Jesus Christ. They believe that a mother is always more loving, gentle, and compassionate than a father or a child. Such a belief is a deception of the devil, leading many to think they are worshipping God when, in reality, they have fallen into Satan’s trap—straying far away from the true God. This is another example of a path that appears right, a concept mentioned in Scripture (Proverbs 14:12; 16:25).
As we examine the life and birth of Jesus, we will further discuss various human-constructed doctrines concerning the status and position of Mary—both before and after the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ was completed.
