THE STANDARDS OF HEAVEN
John 14:6 – Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Christians have long held the simple belief that merely believing in the existence of God guarantees entry into Heaven; yet, few give thought to the standards and requirements of that place. Belief alone is insufficient—even the demons believe in God (James 2:19), yet they make no effort to live in a way that pleases Him. To profess faith in God implies accepting His eternal standards for Heaven—the place where He reigns and where the redeemed will dwell together. Observing the chaos and rampant wickedness of today’s world, Christians can understand that for humanity to coexist eternally with God in Heaven, there must be specific standards enabling everyone to live together in lasting harmony, peace, and joy. In this world, the gentle and righteous cannot coexist with the wicked and violent. Likewise, God must separate humanity into two destinies: only the gentle and meek may dwell with Him in Heaven. At the same time, the wicked and violent are consigned to eternal confinement in Hell. Only in this way can God’s children enjoy everlasting peace. Thus, Heaven must have its own standards, and only those who meet them may enter. We can be certain that God establishes these standards, for Heaven belongs to Him—just as the head of a household sets the rules for his own family. However, some people tend to assume that Heaven’s standards must align with human perspectives, and they convince themselves that their entry is a given—acting as if Heaven were their own private home. Such thinking stems from a lack of understanding regarding God. This happens not because understanding God is impossible, but because many people refuse to seek knowledge about Him.
