WHY WE SHOULD STUDY THE BIBLE

These are the reasons:

TO BE WISE, TO HAVE WISDOM:

– There is a big difference between knowledge and wisdom. Someone has explained that knowledge means know how to do things, but wisdom means know how to live wisely before God.

PSALM 119: 195 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

PROVERBS 19: 20 – Listen to counsel and receive instruction that you may be wise in your latter days.

– Human’s knowledges have been increased many folds from the ancient time to nowadays, but humans generally have not been wiser. The proof is that human’s misery is everywhere, rich and poor are equally unhappy.
– People tend to think that if they had money, being beautiful and famous, they would be happy. But look around, it’s not true.
– There was a young, beautiful girl married a prince of a rich and famous royal family and both of them were still unhappy. Then both of them had affairs, had multiple partners and still miserable, then one of them died. Is it the life that God wants humans to have when He created Adam? No.
– When the world continues to ignore the wisdom of the Bible, their lives will continue to be unhappy. Without the wisdom of the Bible, nothing can buy them happiness. Money, fame, beauty, health, power, knowledge cannot bring them the happiness they want. That is the reality of human life.
– If you want more examples, let look at the Hollywood elites’ lives. They have everything a person wish for: They are talented, beautiful, healthy (or have the best of doctors ready to treat them), they have money, fame, they are connected with powerful politicians, they have fans who worship them like idols, but are they happy? Some of them say they are. But if they were so happy, why they divorced and remarried many times? If they were happy with their previous marriages, why they divorced to marry another ones? If they are truly happy, why they have so many broken families? If they are really happy, why so many of them and including their children do drugs and died of overdose?

TO BE A BETTER PERSON (in God’s eyes, not according to human opinions)

– The human mind has been corrupted from time to time and their opinions often change according to social norms, expectations and ideas of the multitudes, so it cannot depend on.
– Evidently, there are some good people out there who are not Christians, but good is not enough for the Lord, He wants everyone to be a morally better person than himself or herself. That’s why He wants us to follow His’ example, to be like Him (Ephesians 5: 1).
– When God wants us to be like Him, it’s for our own benefit. Have any of us ever got tired of people who are half-way good around us? Have any of us ever want to be the best for someone and want him or her to be the best for us? When God wants us to be a better person, it’s a benefit for all of us when we get into His heavenly Kingdom. There won’t have neither half-way good person nor obnoxious ones. Think it in the term of eternity and you will understand.
– When we want to obey Him and follow the instruction in the Bible to be a better person than ourselves, we are showing our true love for the world, or at least to the people who are closer to us, in our families and our communities.
– But regretfully, many still refuse to live according to Bible’ standards and they say they know what love is. That’s why humans still talk about love and being miserable at the same time.

GALATIANS 5: 22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

TO PREPARE FOR THE DAY TO SEE GOD FACE TO FACE

– Death will surely be the end of every life on Earth, but many people are acting like they would live permanently here without opening the unavoidable door called death at the end of their life journeys. They may prepare for their funerals but not for the day they face God. What do they call a person who is going to travel preparing only for his farewell party but not for the journey itself?

HEBREWS 9: 27 – Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.

AMOS 4: 12 – Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God (the same to everyone else).
