WHY DID JESUS COME? 4

Bible: Luke 2: 1-10

Main verse: JOHN 12: 47 B – For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

– According to the Bible, Jesus will come to the world twice: The first time He already did when He was born as a child in Bethlehem. The second time He will come as a King Who will reign on Earth for 1000 years.

– In His first coming Jesus bore humans sins and died on the cross as a payment for all sinners in the world. In His second coming He will give salvation as a reward for all those who believed in Him.

– The first time Jesus came, He did not come to judge the world, but to save those believe in Him and wanted His believers to live according to His teaching and the Holy Spirit instructions that were recorded in the Bible.

– In other words, Jesus came to save us from the miserable life of humankind:

JOHN 12: 47 B – For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

GIĂNG 12: 47 phần B – Vì ta đến chẳng để xét đoán thế gian, nhưng để cứu chuộc.

– We all know that the troubles in human life and all the crimes in the world originated from greed and misused of freedom that God gave us.

– That’s why Jesus came, firstly, to pay for our sins and secondly, teaching us to live a good life so that we can experience God’s blessings as rewards for doing it.

– When we confessed our sins and believing in Him, our debt from sins had been paid for by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

– Then, in order to have a good life that is free from miserable consequences and melancholy, we must live according to His teachings in the Bible.

– But Satan has been tempting humans to reject God’s plan by these three ways: First, not believing in Jesus, second, believing in Him half-heartedly, and third, believing in Him the wrong way.

– As we can see, although Jesus has come to the world more than 2000 years ago but there were billions of people who did not believe in Him, and today more than half of the world has not had faith in Him.

– That’s why the world is still miserable, full of crimes and immoral life styles.

– But when people believed in Him, Satan has tempted many of them to believing half-heartedly, meaning they believed only with words of mouth, but not by their hearts.

– That is the reason we have many Christians who live like unbelievers, with thought, behavior, actions and language like those who do not believe in Jesus.

– Because of following Jesus like that none of them actually experience a fullest life in Him, and never fell satisfied with anything in their lives.

– That kind of believing half-heartedly is like a patient went to a doctor, believed his diagnosis of his sickness but never wanted to take the medicines that the doctor prescribed to him. The sickness would never be cured and the patient would never feel better although he already went to see the doctor and believed his ability to treat illnesses.

– From the time the church was established until now, there have been many Christians who believed in Jesus half-heartedly like that and that’s why they never experienced a fullest life in Jesus as He has promised.

– Christians have been warned by the Word of God about that kind of believing and its consequences, as it was written in the letter of James:

JAMES 2: 26 – As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

GIA-CƠ 2: 26 – Vả, xác chẳng có hồn thì chết, đức tin không có việc làm cũng chết như vậy.

– We must live in Jesus with the true faith that was set forth in the Bible in order to receiving all of God’s blessings that He has in store for us.

– The third group is people who believed in Him in a wrong way. They said they followed Jesus but at the same time they worshipped idols according to what their religious leaders told them, although none of it has any support from the Word of God.

– They thought they are already God’s children but one look at their lives and everyone can see that they live completely like unbelievers, submerse themselves in smoking, drinking, swearing, gambling and all of other vices.

GALATIANS 4: 8-11 – Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

– The danger for the two latter group is that they all think that already have God in their lives, they think that they are all children of God, but in reality they are not. How the God of Holy has vice children like them, who committed all kind of sins against Him and His standards set forth in the Bible?

– Therefore, in this Christmas season, I see it as a need to remind you again that in order to be God’s true children, we must change our life styles, we must live according to Jesus’ teachings and the Holy Spirit’s instructions that were recorded in the Bible.

– This is the only way to be received by Jesus on the day He comes back to Earth, and in the meantime, to experience the fullest life that Jesus has promises to us:

JOHN 10: 10 B – I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

GIĂNG 10: 10 phần B – Ta đã đến, hầu cho chiên được sự sống và được sự sống dư dật.

– May God give us more strength and determination in following Jesus and obey His teachings to live accordingly, so that every Christmas can be happily counted until the day we see Him face to face in His glory. Amen.
