*******

MATTHEW 9: 2 – Some men brought to Him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man: Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.

– Jesus knew the paralytic came to be healed, but He said first that his sins had been forgiven.

– That’s means his paralysis was caused by his sins in the past.

– By saying the sins of the paralytic was forgiven, Jesus let us know that some diseases happened because of human sins:

DEUTERONOMY 28: 58-59 – If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God, the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses.

– Therefore, in order to be healed a particular disease, the patient must first confess his sins and promise a repentance.

– Confessing a sin is hard, but keeping the promise of repentance is harder.

– Psychologically, humans tend to blame others for their sins. Only a few actually and truly confess that they committed sins on their own.

– For example, bank robbers blamed their life hardship made them robbing a bank. Adulterers blamed their spouses did not love them anymore.

– Some Christians even claimed that some kinds of vice were not sins, like smoking, drinking, gambling, divorcing and adultering.

– It seems that no Christians actually study the whole Bible on these subjects. They just used some of verses that support their own ideas and from there claimed that those vices were not sins.

– Moreover, nowadays many Christians never want to hear anything about sins, so they just forget confession completely. Like the warning in the Bible, at the end of times, Christians would rather like to hear silly myths and fake news more than truth:

2TIMOTHY 4: 3-4 – For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

– Just have a look at all churches nowadays, no ministers mentioned of sins anymore. All they said in their sermons was blessing, thought of God as a fortune Spirit Who would never judge and punish anyone for whatever sins they did in this life.

– That’s why nowadays Christians go to churches and instead of hearing truth in the Bible, they hear social news of people doing their daily works, even news of their private lives.

– That’s why many Christians go to churches almost all of their lives and never grow up spiritually in Christ. They continue to live with thoughts, actions, habits and behaviors like unbelievers, nothing is different.

– But if confessing a sin is hard, keeping the promise of repentance is harder, or for some people, it’s impossible.

– According to the Bible, true repentance means never committing that kind of sin again, like what Jesus said to the woman who committed adultery:

JOHN 8: 10-11 – Jesus straightened up and asked her: Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? No one, sir, she said. Then neither do I condemn you, Jesus declared, go now and leave your life of sin.

– Although the Lord Jesus taught us to forgive others 70 times 7, but He did not means the forgiveness of one sin that committed over and over 490 times, because if it’s the case, it would become sinning deliberately. And also according to the Bible, those who deliberately sinned are enemies of God:

HEBREWS 10: 26-27 – If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

– This particular verses were recorded after Jesus was nailed on the cross as an offering for humans’ sins, therefore it means that those who were already forgiven in Christ would not be forgiven again if they deliberately committed the same kind of sins as before:

HEBREWS 6: 4-6 – It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

– In churches there are always those who said Christians did not need to worry about sins because God would forgive them all disregarding how many times they committed. Those false teachers are trying to lure Christians into the way of damnation forever. We should avoid them at all cost.

– Back to the paralytic’ story, although Jesus saw the way they came to Him and wishing their friend to be healed from the paralysis, but Jesus also knew he already repented his sins, meaning he never wanted to commit them again, so Jesus said his sins were forgiven instead of his paralysis was healed.

– But those present day preachers never actually knew those who came to them for healing were truly repentant or not but they kept asking God to heal them like they were masters of Him. We must avoid those false preachers, too, and never have anything associating with that kind of blasphemy.

– When sickness came from sins, in order to be healed, we must confess our sins first and make a promise of repentance that we never commit those sins again, no matter what.

– That is the way some sickness would be healed, as it was recorded in the Bible as such:

JAMES 5: 16 – Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

– According to Jesus’ teaching, recommitting a sin will make thing worse for that person, or in other words, make the sickness to be more severe than before:

JOHN 5: 12-14 – So they asked him: Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk? The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him: See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.

– Because Christians don’t often take heed from Jesus’ teaching on this particular subject of healing, so there have been many sick people in churches and many of us don’t have a healthy life, like what happened in the earthly church:

1CORINTHIANS 11: 30-31 – That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.

– Thus, in order for us to have a healthy life, we must recognize right away whatever sins we have committed and we must make the confession to God, at the same time promise to repent completely.

– May God give us wisdom and strength to humbly do just that then our lives in the year 2019 will certainly be better than those already passed. May God bless us abundantly as a reward. Amen.
