CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE 1

Bible: Psalm 8: 1-9

Main verse: PSALM 8: 4 – What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?

– Love is the word that everyone can say easily without actually meaning it. Some say love because they want others to feel good about it. Others just want to lie for their benefit. Most says it because they thought they were feeling love. If we really want to know what true love is though, we have to know and recognize its characteristics.

– Even when people think their feelings for each other is love, it could not true love if the characteristics are not there. They could feel it for a moment or two, and then it can disappear, along with their supposed love.

– One of love’s characteristics is keeping the other in mind. If two people say they are in love with each other, they must keep the other in mind and remember them. If it was only present in one of them, it’s just a one-sided love. It cannot bring happiness to the one who had it.

– This characteristic must be present for the rest of their lives. If it only existed for a short amount of time, it’s not true love. Their happiness is just short physical satisfaction, not a complete one in mind and in body.

– There is one thing we should know, and that is nobody likes to be in debt, but people remember it and pay their debts to others, so, as people remember even what they don’t like, we must remember our loved ones and keep them in our minds.

– To understand this characteristic, we can look into the Bible and think about God’s love for us. God loves His children, including the Israelites and Christians, so He remembers us always and keeps us in His thoughts.

– In today’s main verse, we can see that God remembers mankind because of His love for us, even if we humans are not worthy of His love. People love each other because of the qualities and satisfaction that they bring to each other, but God loves mankind even though many are against Him. That is the greatness of God’s love:

PSALM 136: 23 – He remembered us in our low estate, His love endures forever.

– Because of the love for His children, God never forgets us, especially when we are facing obstacles and hardships, as it was recorded in the Bible:

ISAIAH 49: 15 – Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!

Ê-SAI 49: 15 – Đàn bà há dễ quên con mình cho bú, không thương đến con trai ruột mình sao? Dầu đàn bà quên con mình, ta cũng chẳng quên ngươi.

– However, there are many circumstances when parents forgot their children and left them in danger, or even left them to face death.

– As the Bible has confirmed, God never forgets us and He always remember to bless us when we need Him. God is Love, so the characteristics of His love should be an example of what human love should be.

– This will help us to identify our love for others and also helps recognize others’ love for us. For Christians who are single, recognizing this characteristic can either help you to feel confident to move forward with your love lives, or not waste your time and effort on artificial love.

– We also need to remember that, for married couples, this is not an encouragement to seek divorce and re-marriage. We must remember God’s law concerning that matter in Romans 7: 3 and therefore should seek God’s help to rekindle your love for each other.

– Identifying this characteristic of love also helps us to avoid being lied to or being manipulated. Please remember that this characteristic is just one of many in true love and that we should not use it alone to identify the love of others for us.

– While God never forgets us, there are many Christians who continue to forget Him. How many of us forget to communicate with Him each day? How many of us forgot to be present in His house every Sunday? How long have we forgot to worship Him and serve Him? How long have we forgot to read and study His words in the Bible?

– As His warning for the end of time, many Christians will stop to love Him and continue to forget Him as the time gets nearer every day.

MATTHEW 24: 3-13 – Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying: Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age? And Jesus answered and said to them: Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying: I am the Christ, and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for [all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

MA-THI-Ơ 24: 3-13 – Ngài đương ngồi trên núi ô-li-ve, môn đồ tới riêng cùng Ngài, và nói rằng: Xin Chúa phán cho chúng tôi biết lúc nào những sự đó sẽ xảy ra? và có điềm gì chỉ về sự Chúa đến và tận thế. Đức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Hãy giữ, kẻo có kẻ dỗ dành các ngươi. Vì nhiều người sẽ mạo danh ta đến mà nói rằng: Ta là Đấng Christ; và sẽ dỗ dành nhiều người. Các ngươi sẽ nghe nói về giặc và tiếng đồn về giặc: hãy giữ mình, đừng bối rối, vì những sự ấy phải đến; song chưa là cuối cùng đâu. Dân nầy sẽ dấy lên nghịch cùng dân khác, nước nọ nghịch cùng nước kia; nhiều chỗ sẽ có đói kém và động đất. Song mọi điều đó chỉ là đầu sự tai hại. Bấy giờ, người ta sẽ nộp các ngươi trong sự hoạn nạn và giết đi; các ngươi sẽ bị mọi dân ghen ghét vì danh ta. Khi ấy cũng có nhiều kẻ sẽ sa vào chước cám dỗ, phản nghịch nhau, và ghen ghét nhau. Nhiều tiên tri giả sẽ nổi lên và dỗ dành lắm kẻ. Lại vì cớ tội ác sẽ thêm nhiều thì lòng yêu mến của phần nhiều người sẽ nguội lần. Nhưng kẻ nào bền chí cho đến cuối cùng, thì sẽ được cứu.

– May God help us not to forget him until the end of time. May God help us to keep the fire of our love for Him always, and forevermore. May God bless us to find our true love in this life. Amen.
