REASONS TO SERVE THE LORD

Bible: Colossians 3: 22-25

Main verse: COLOSSIANS 3: 24 – Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

– We Christians believe that our lives have two parts: physical and spiritual. They are parallel to each other. As we go to work to earn a living in the physical life, we also need to do something spiritually to earn blessings for ourselves.

3JOHN 1: 2 – Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

3GIĂNG 1: 2 – Hỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, tôi cầu nguyện cho anh được thạnh vượng trong mọi sự, và được khỏe mạnh phần xác anh cũng như đã được thạnh vượng về phần linh hồn anh vậy.

ISAIAH 55: 2 – Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.

Ê-SAI 55: 2 – Sao các ngươi trả tiền để mua đồ không phải là bánh? Sao các ngươi đem công lao mình đổi lấy vật chẳng làm cho no? Hãy chăm chỉ nghe ta, hãy ăn của ngon, và cho linh hồn các ngươi vui thích trong của béo.

– God is the Master of the universe so we should serve Him to earn blessings from Him. God is powerful, so He actually does not need us to serve Him. We serve Him because of our benefit, to be blessed by Him. He is Just so He does not want to bless those who are idle spiritually.

ACTS 17: 25 – Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

CÔNG VỤ 17: 25 – Ngài cũng chẳng dùng tay người ta hầu việc Ngài dường như có cần đến sự gì, vì Ngài là Đấng ban sự sống, hơi sống, muôn vật cho mọi loài.

PROVERBS 13: 4 – The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

CHÂM NGÔN 13: 4 – Lòng kẻ biếng nhác mong ước, mà chẳng có chi hết; Còn lòng người siêng năng sẽ được no nê.

ROMANS 12: 11 – Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

RÔ-MA 12: 11 – Hãy siêng năng mà chớ làm biếng; phải có lòng sốt sắng; phải hầu việc Chúa.

– Unbelievers don’t want to serve the Lord because they think there is no God, but they still serve Him unknowingly. Many examples shows that God has used mankind to serve His purpose throughout history, like how the invention of the printing press made the Bible become more cheaper to the public and helped to advance the Reformation.

PSALM 119: 91 – They continue this day according to Your ordinances, for all are Your servants.

THI THIÊN 119: 91 – Tùy theo mạng lịnh Chúa, các điều đó còn vững đến ngày nay; Vì muôn vật đều hầu việc Chúa.

DANIEL 4: 35 – All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, “What have You done?”

ĐA-NI-ÊN 4: 35 – Hết thảy dân cư trên đất thảy đều cầm như là không có; Ngài làm theo ý mình trong cơ binh trên trời, và ở giữa cư dân trên đất; chẳng ai có thể cản tay Ngài và hỏi rằng: Ngài làm chi vậy?

– We should serve the Lord, because the rewards are far better than when we were reluctant.

HEBREWS 6: 10 – For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

HEBREWS 6: 10 – Đức Chúa Trời không phải là không công bình mà bỏ quên công việc và lòng yêu thương của anh em đã tỏ ra vì danh Ngài, trong khi hầu việc các thánh đồ và hiện nay đang còn hầu việc nữa.

HEBREWS 10: 35 – Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

HÊ-BƠ-RƠ 10: 35 – Vậy chớ bỏ lòng dạn dĩ mình, vốn có một phần thưởng lớn đã để dành cho.

– The Bible already states that the biggest reward for serving the Lord is the inheritance of the Kingdom of God. It means that we Christians are already counted as God’s children, and in the future, we will live in heaven with Him for eternity with glory and happiness.

HEBREWS 12: 28 – Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

HÊ-BƠ-RƠ 12: 28 – Như vậy, vì chúng ta có phần trong một nước không hay rúng động, nên hãy cảm ơn, hầu cho lấy lòng kính sợ hầu việc Đức Chúa Trời một cách đẹp lòng Ngài.

– There are many reasons as to why we should serve God, but this is the biggest and the best of them all. Many people view this reward as an illusion and something unreal, but if we compare it with other human wishes, then we will see the absurdity in refusing to believe in the reward that God has promised to us.

1PETER 1: 3-4 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.

1PHI-E-RƠ 1: 3-4 – Ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời, là Cha Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ chúng ta, Ngài lấy lòng thương xót cả thể khiến chúng ta lại sanh, đặng chúng ta nhờ sự Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ sống lại từ trong kẻ chết mà có sự trông cậy sống, là cơ nghiệp không hư đi, không ô uế, không suy tàn, để dành trong các từng trời cho anh em.

– People always want to look for a better place. In the 16th century, European navigators tried to find a new land and when they found the New World (American continent), a lot of people started coming for a better life than the one they had in old Europe.

– The waves of new immigrants have been continued into the 20th and 21st century because many people want to have a better place to live. However, we Americans know that there are many problems in this country, and in turn, some of the Americans have already left this country to go elsewhere, hoping for even better living conditions.

– Humans will continue to be disappointed in their search for a better place on Earth. Human’s sins had made the Earth much worse than before, even if there is some improvement. It’s never enough. In Heaven though, we can find a wonderful place for us to live forever in happiness and satisfaction.

REVELATION 21: 4 – And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

KHẢI HUYỀN 21: 4 – Ngài sẽ lau ráo hết nước mắt khỏi mắt chúng, sẽ không có sự chết, cũng không có than khóc, kêu ca, hay là đau đớn nữa; vì những sự thứ nhất đã qua rồi.

– May God bless us each day when we try to serve Him in our capability the best we can until we receive that wonderful reward on the day He comes. Amen.
